St. Bernadette Parish Committees

Committees exist within the parish to ensure greater participation and also the proper functioning of our family at St. Bernadette. Below we give a small description of each committee and some of the activities that each provide to the community. These committees are: St. Vincent de Paul Society, Liturgy Committee, Parish Council, Finance Committee, Altar Society, Men's Club, Board of Education, Maintenance Committee, Stewardship Council Home and School, and Boy Scouts/Cubs Scouts.

St. Vincent DePaul Society

St. Bernadette Church is privileged to have an established chapter of the St. Vincent DePaul Society. Members provide a response to persons suffering real material needs of various kinds. A pantry is also maintained with nonperishable foods. Contact the St. Bernadette Parish Office (731-4694) when experiencing a real need. Referrals are made to the St. Vincent DePaul staff members, who will make contact and respond to the person in need.

Liturgy Committee

The Liturgy reflects our faith as it encompasses our spirituality, our doctrines, our moral life and the laws of the Church. The Liturgy Committee follows the norms and guidelines established by the Church for liturgical celebration as well as the policies of the Archdiocese of Omaha. The St. Bernadette Liturgy Committee is an advisory committee whose main responsibilities are:

1. Fostering the liturgical life of the community
2. Motivating the community to participate fully in the liturgical life
3. Educating the parish about the liturgy
4. Preparing, implementing, and evaluating worship experiences

Parish Council

The purpose of the Parish Council is to assist the pastor in developing and deepening the parish faith community in order to fulfill the mission of Jesus. As a consultative body, the Council proposes a vision and direction for parish life. It is to be structured so that all, with diverse talents and backgrounds, may be encouraged to exercise their responsibilities in addressing the needs of our parish family.

Finance Committee

Church law establishes that each parish is to have a Finance Committee, which is a consultative body that assists the pastor in the administration of the parish's temporal goods. The Finance Council meets once a month, and is responsible for the budget, records and reports.

Altar Society

The purpose of the Altar Society is to cultivate and promote a greater devotion to Our Blessed Lady, to maintain the needs of the Sanctuary, to foster friendship among the women of the parish, and to assist the pastor in matters pertaining to the welfare of the parish.

Every woman of the parish is a member of the Altar Society. The women meet on the third Wednesday of the month. They start the meeting with a mass and have a social after their brief meeting. Feel free to join and come to know more women in our parish family.

Men's Club

St. Bernadette Men's Club is a parish organization dedicated to the support of Catholics families living in the parish.

Every man of the parish is a member of the Men's Club. Their meetings are held on the third Thursday of the month in the Cafeteria. Please feel free to come and join the men and have a good time as there is a social after every meeting.

These men are committed to providing opportunities to the children and youth of the parish to grow as Christian Catholics using education and athletics as vehicles to help them become morally strong and contributing members of society.

Board of Education

This board was established to assist the Pastor and administrators of the educational programs of St. Bernadette Parish. The educational program would be those programs that you can find on this page.

The Board is advisory to the Pastor, who, in accord with Canon Law, has ultimate responsibility for the parish. The Board is accountable to the Parish Council in matters of parish educational policy and finance. The chief functions of the board are planning to assure continued excellence and viability, policy formation, public relations and development, budget review and recommendations, and advising in selection of Administrators of educational programs.

Home and School

Home and School is an organization of school parents, who encourage active interest and participation in the school activities. Volunteer programs, social functions and fund-raising efforts are all projects of this association of parents. All school parents are invited to belong as well as anyone who might have an interest in the school.

Boy Scouts/Cubs Scouts

St. Bernadette Parish has a Cub Scout Pack and a Boy Scout Troop. The St. Bernadette Men's Club supports the Scouts by paying the annual charter fees.

In Cub Scouts, the boys are introduced to various activities that are intended to promote physical, mental and interpersonal skills. The Scouts are also active in Parish activities such as the Festival and Spaghetti Dinner. The Scouts are encouraged to earn the religious award before they graduate onto Boy Scouts.

The Boy Scout Troop continues to encourage the boys in improving their own self worth as they grow older. The scouts become more involved in the planning of activities and doing the tasks themselves. The Leaders and parents act as guides and direct the boys when needed. Examples are planning campouts, meals and projects, just to name a few. The Boy Scouts are also involved in Parish activities throughout the year and are encouraged to learn more about their religion and to earn the Boy Scout religious award.
