The St Bernadette Parish, together with the Men’s Club and the Altar Society, will be sponsoring nine scholarships to deserving 8th Graders that can be used to subsidize tuition to a Catholic High School. One $1,200 and eight $1,000 scholarships will be awarded.

All 8th Graders in the Parish are eligible to apply for the scholarships which will only be awarded to students attending a Catholic High School.

A Men’s Club and Altar Society selection committee will review candidates that meet the requirements specified in the selection rules. They will follow the process used last year to evaluate and award the scholarships. The process will take in consideration the student’s participation in extracurricular activities and demonstration of stewardship in the Parish in addition to academic achievements. We expect the students to actively seek and participate in the process.

An initial application and character reference will be used to identify interested students. Students that apply for the scholarships will take a test proctored by the selection committee. The test will consist of multiple choice questions on religious knowledge learned during the confirmation education. The selection committee will review these items and identify nine students who will receive scholarships. The top three candidates will then be offered an opportunity to interview with the selection committee for selection for the $1200 scholarship.

The applications and character reference will be submitted prior to taking the test on April 30th, 2011. Candidates will be required to present their application and character reference at 7:45 AM. These will be your admittance ticket for the test which will be administered at 8:00 AM at the St. Bernadette School Social Hall. We want to stress that punctuality in accomplishing these tasks is part of the process.
